Kafir is often translated to mean infidel. Infidel is not a word from arabic. It comes from latin and was originally ascribed by the Catholic Pope. He referred to the Muslims as kafir and that was the precursor to the Crusades.

The word kafir has to do with agriculture. In arabic, a kafir is a farmer. The connotation today is associated with unbelievers. But the truth is that a kafir is someone who knows the truth and then covers it up. Hence, a farmer who covers his seeds.
