Zainab Bint Jahsh is one of the prophets wives. She is the daughter of Omaimah Bint Abdul Muttalib, the aunt of the prophet; and the wife of Zaid bin Haritha before becoming the wife of the Messenger of Allah.
As for Zaid bin Haritha, husband Zainab before the Prophet, he was called before Islam: Zaid son of Muhammad, but he was not actually a true son for Mohamed (PBUH). He was a slave, whom Khadija purchased and gifted to Mohamed after their marriage so that he can serve him. Mohamed manumitted and adopted him to raise his social status according to the Arab traditions during those times, and after Zaids parents dishonored, expelled and abandoned him
When Prophet Mohamed felt Zaids need to marry, he told him to marry his aunt’s daughter Zainab Bint Jahsh, but Zainab abstained as it was not acceptable that a Free lady marries a ex-slave, particularly when Zainab was from a renowned and honorable family.
